Finding someone who is a good match for your life is a lot like doing a puzzle.
In my new book, Love In Every Season, I spend a lot of time talking about the importance of compatibility.
In Christian circles, character tends to be highlighted— but compatibility ignored. But they are both absolutely essential to a healthy relationship.
I explain that compatibility isn’t about your similarities, it’s about your ability to come together in your differences.
Finding A Good Match
Finding a good match is like putting a puzzle together because you’re not looking for a piece that’s completely identical to you, in fact, it definitely wouldn’t fit.
You’re also not looking for a piece that’s completely different, because that won’t fit either.
When you’re putting a puzzle piece together with another puzzle piece, the shapes are different but must complement each other, and the colors work together. That’s how you know you have a good match.
And in relationships, you’ve got to be aware and looking for someone who complements you in their differences— but shares commonalities and similarities.
You’ve got to be compatible in all the big picture areas like your faith, personality, lifestyle, view of finances, and a whole lot more.
One of the problems I see is that so many people don’t actually know who they are, they have no idea what their own puzzle piece looks like, so they really struggle to know who matches their life and who doesn’t.
It’s like putting together a puzzle blindly…Trying to shove and force different pieces together hoping they will be the right fit.
But if you don’t know who you are, you won’t know the kind of person who fits into your life.
