Why Love Doesn’t Always Need Words

In Marriage, Relationships by Debra Fileta

Today, my husband said “I love you” to me in many words unspoken by:

Offering to go to the grocery store after work to pick up groceries I needed….braving the crazy pre-snow-storm crowds and insanely long lines.

Going to get the mail and telling me that he threw out the Victoria Secret catalog that came in my name (which I always throw out when I get the mail but don’t get me started on that rant) and making sure to tell me that he honored me with his eyes and didn’t look at it.

Helping to clean up after dinner without me saying a word about it.

Giving the kids a bath so I could put my feet up and rest my pregnant self after a long day.

You know guys, I get SO many relationship questions in my inbox every single day. So many people are wondering how to know someone is a good life-partner, whether or not they should move forward in a relationship, and what kind of person they should date.

There are no cookie-cutter answers when it comes to relationships, but I believe that all these questions can be answered by saying this: in a good relationship, ACTIONS always speak louder than WORDS.

Simply said: A good marriage is made up of two people, making little choices and actions throughout the day….that turn into little choices and actions throughout their lives….in an attempt to honor and love one another – even when no one else is watching.

I hope and pray that my husband can list some “unspoken” ways he feels loved by me each and every day, because real marriage is about being the closest reflection of Jesus your spouse will ever see….and that is no small feat

So look for a relationship that displays the ACTIONS of love, not simply the “emotions” of love. Because emotions can be so very fleeting….

But when you have the former, you’ll inevitably have the latter.
